    The First Five A Side

The past weekend we spent our Saturday along side the soccer field at our first 5 a side game of the season. When we started homeschooling we knew that Garren would need to join some sort of sports club and seeing that his bestie, Ry, was already with Savages Football Club it seemed only befitting at the time to join too. It has been a slow and rather unorganised start to the season. But, it seems we may eventually get there. The weather was perfect for the day, although cold was predicted for most of it. Rain held out until the bitter end and rounded off the day with a…

    That Was Yesterday

When things don’t go quite the way she would like, she ever so slowly (in a rather dramatic way) falls to the ground – rolls to her back with eyes to the sky and wails disgracefully.. He’s going through pretty much the same thing … running to the back end of yard to stamp his feet in the wet cold grass and scream it all out to the pines. It isn’t pretty to say the very least but that’s how they vent! And I just leave them to it… Now put these two fiery souls, on a bad day, together!! Yesterday was one of those, she was particularly grumpy and…

    More & More Time For

It was humid and warm and the sun shone brightly while we were away. On return we happily jumped into bed with shorts and t shirts and woke halfway through the night frozen to the bone. It seems we have returned home, from our time away down the coast, to the beginnings of Winter. I think this year I am going to love Winter. This year I will be home for Winter. This year I will have more time to add rows to my knit projects, more time to read lines from my book and that of the kids, more time to add a pinch of love to warming home…

    The Last Of Summer’s Tides

We’re back from our time away down the South Coast! It was a bittersweet weekend. Celebrating Rob’s Birthday, paddling in rock pools and then saying goodbye to the tides for the next couple of colder seasons ahead of us. We spent most of our time at our private spot we love so, collecting broken shells and wading in the perfect rock pools. This time we also ventured further down to Rocky Bay and I am so very glad we did. It is such a beautiful bay for swimming and at the right time of day an exquisite rock formation peeks out from the waves – which I know would hold…

    Forest of Pine Tea

I don’t seem to be getting anywhere with the mundane of housework or meal planning this week. It could be because we are planning on getting away for the long weekend and so my mind is preoccupied with that. It’s Robs birthday and all he wants, before the real Winter chill sets in, is to spend some time down the coast at our usual spot with his Brother. Personally I am not complaining. I need to unwind again and feel sea sand under foot and cool salty water trickling over my toes. Josh may need it more than all of us. He has caught a nasty flu bug that has…

    Earth Rocks

This weekend was Earth Day. Did you take a moment or two to give it a thought? Our precious Mother Earth. This year the world emphasis was on the change of behavior and attitude of humans towards plastic. I have been giving it a whole lot of thought for quite some time now. On my once a week rendezvous into town to get groceries, supplies for the Shoppe and post or courier off various orders – I see plastic in everything. Whether you are supporting a certain brand of milk or grabbing for a bunch of bananas in the fruit & veg aisle at the local Checkers or Food Market.…

    Kneaded Rolls

I shared my very first attempt at Burger rolls on my My Story accounts on Instagram and Facebook this past weekend. It was such a huge success and I had so many requests for the recipe that I thought it best to save it here and share it with you all together. I am by no stretch in any way or form an artisan bread maker like so many of my foodie friends are but when there’s a recipe that is simple to whip up, that even I can accomplish it, I have to share it with you all so that you can give it a go too. Cause really……

    Cooler Mornings.

I couldn’t resist capturing this moment this morning before I had to wake him for his day. She certainly doesn’t give him any more attention than he deserves. She is still pretty much a Mama’s girl and given time I know she and him will be inseparable. He is just a little impatient at the moment. The first week back at our Barefoot Home School has been on the rocky side. But, I think today went a little better and hope that the next week we will be back into our rhythm of studies and home life all jumbled as one. I knew that at times it wouldn’t be smooth…

    Cousins + Bubbles

We recently caught up with special family. Small beings are always fun to have here at the Cottage. Small beings and their Mamas! These small cousins are all around the same age. All under 3ish and made from similar cloth of the tribe and are so very different. It always intrigues me how littlies, although only a few months apart either way, grow and develop at totally different rates. So very unique. I know it has a lot to do with the “Village” that helps the Mamas along the way and the whole gene pool thing. But, it still is such an amazingly powerful thing to watch as they play.…
